Bourbon and Critt's Tomb are almost two seperate drains but connect a few times. The first time upstream by the grille, and second a small sidepipe.

One of the most interesting things about the drain is the unusually grand outfall. The bricks along here are almost always very slippery and the shape of this drain stays as a redbrick arch shape the whole way through. It is the same style as another drain in the area Camo's Tomb.

Recently a few years back they had shotcreted the first 20m or so of the drain, and currently here is some water quality tracking device.

Just after this is the evil pit that is about knee deep on the right side. The drain continues as brick until the end.

mud buildup in offshoot

After the pit there is a small brick offshoot coming from the right that is backed up with mud. Looking on the map I think this may have connected to the brick offshoot of the same shape in the stairs room of Critt's.

Shortly after the offshoot, in the bend there will be a small 650mm RCP pipe that connects Bourbon to Critt's. The pipe is about 5m long and will pop you out into a 1.5m section of Critt's.

Further down Bourbon past the sidepipe the drain continues straight as the redbrick arch all the way until the next sidepipe, the entrance to Critt's.

grille from the outside

Eventually there two grilles in the drain, both can be exits but one requires more climbing than the other. The good one has been labelled an exit and the grille is pretty safe to exit from.

Past the grille the drain continues for a while at standing height with a few small brick offshoots before shrinking to a stoop. I have heard from others that there isnt anything of note down here, just back pain.

Critt's Tomb

Date: 18th of October 2025

Entrance: 1.5m
Materials:
Concrete
Shapes: Round

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

We popped through the small sidepipe in Bourbon and continued to head downstream towards the outflow of Critt's. Just after the sidepipe is a short but very low section before opening back up to 1.5m RCP.

This drain sucks and doesnt get bigger. The 1.5m section from here until the stairs room has no waterflow and there are small pools of stagnant water that should be avoided. It also gets pretty hot and humid here.

The stairs are the only real feature of this drain. They are quite impressive and I remember when I did this drain last I was very excited to see them again.

The small brick offshoot looks very out of place here and I think it would have linked up to the one in bourbon before this diversion drain was built.

Shortly after this the drain heads out to the river, it was about knee deep but it is affected by tide so water level may vary.
