One day I found myself in richmond with Cabbage and not much to do. We checked out this drain and one nearby, Collins bridge redbrick drain.
I was really suprised with this drain it was a nice explore with some strange features. I hadn't heard anyone really talk about this before and on the MMBW map showed it was pretty short but it turns out the rest of the drain is owned by the council.
This is one of the older drains in melbourne as the redbrick section was constructed sometime pre-1900.
The outflow has a very slippery slide at the start but from here the drain is pretty fine. In the RCP section there are these gooey stalactites that had a constant stream of water coming from them.

The RCP turns to this old pill shaped redbrick from here until turning back to RCP after about 500m or so.

After a bit of a slog through the slippery brick the drain comes to a 1.8m RCP before reaching a split with a 1.5m pipe on the right. Continuing down here there is a gutterbox apparently but I didnt head down that far.
We saw this small broken hole in the side of the drain and had a quick poke around, I believe this was the old section of the drain before they replaced it sometime in the 70s. It was very dusty and a bit muddy but it looked like it kept going for a while. I may come back better equipped and explore the rest of this.

The coolest part of this drain is the outflow and the bluestone slide at the start. The rest of the drain is pretty boring, its just this stoopy redbrick that goes on for a while before shrinking.
The first 200m of this drain would have been constructed sometime in the 1920s, before the drain from the corner of Nicholson St turned north towards where the redbrick starts in Vampire's cavern, to outflow into what was then called Blind Creek.
You can view the 1900 map showing this lost creek on the state library victoria site here.
